Chicago Style Citation

Online Journal Articles with a DOI

A doi is preferable to a URL in a citation, so if you can find a doi for an article, use it. Access dates are not required for journal articles in most disciplines (see section 14.176).

Bibliography: General Format

Lastname, first name of the first author, other authors in normal name order as listed.  "Title of article."  Title of journal italicized volume, no. issue (date): page range. doi.

Online Journal Articles without a DOI

If the article does not have a doi, give a persistent URL for the article or the name of the database.

Bibliography: General Format

Lastname, first name of the first author, other authors in normal name order as listed.  "Title of article."  Title of journal italicized volume, no. issue (date): page range, persistent URL or database name.

                Publication in Italics, date of publication. DOI, URL, or name of database.

Note: General Format

1. First name and last name of all authors, "Title of article,"  Title of Publication italicized, date, page if it appears,  DOI, URL, or name of database.
